SEDANIA ENTERS INTO RENEWABLE ENERGY WITH MICRO HYDRO

PETALING JAYA, 24 JUNE 2019 – Sedania Innovator Berhad (“SEDANIA” or the “Company”) (创新有限公司; Bursa: 0178; Bloomberg: SDNA.MK), under its Greentech business unit formally entered the renewable energy market by signing an exclusive agreement with NV Turbulent from Belgium, to build and deploy micro-hydro installations in Malaysia.

Micro-hydro turbines use a vortex to enable small rivers or canals with relatively slow water flow to generate electricity of up to 100 kW per turbine to surrounding off-the-grid areas. This means regions which are not connected to the national electricity grid and are currently reliant on diesel generators, will be able to receive clean and local sustainable electricity.

Suitable locations for the installation of microturbines are mostly rural areas including villages, agricultural, farming and palm plantations throughout Malaysia which are unreached by the national electrical grid.

SEDANIA has signed a technology partner and distribution agreement with Belgium startup company NV Turbulent to secure the most advanced and efficient turbine technology on the market. SEDANIA will install the Turbulent turbines in Malaysian micro-hydro installations and provide IoT-driven power performance monitoring.

A typical Sedania-Turbulent Micro Hydro installation will require a circumference of only 3 meters at the side of the river and a water volume flow of 3 cubic meters per second in order to generate 40kW, which is sufficient to power 40-100 homes throughout the day and all year round - subject to the flow of water.

Unlike common hydroelectricity generators, SEDANIA’s micro-hydro has a minimal ecological impact. It does not require dams or large infrastructure to be built, thus preserving land and habitats of flora, fauna and aquatic life - which is able to pass through the turbine unharmed. It is also silent and does not disrupt or change the flow of the river. This allows SEDANIA to install multiple micro hydros along a river wherever needed.

Chief Executive Officer of SEDANIA, Mr Daniel Ruppert said, “After having maximised our spectrum in energy efficiency solutions for multi-site corporations, entering into renewable energy (RE) is a logical progression. However, as innovators, we wanted a RE segment that is not mainstream, mature and oversupplied, but rather an underutilised, smart and Malaysia-suitable technology. And with Turbulent, we found the perfect match in regards to product and aspirations. The Turbulent product is the most efficient, environmentally friendly, low maintenance, and the best sustainable energy solution.”

Mr Albert Ling, Head of Greentech at SEDANIA, added: “Malaysia is blessed with natural rivers which make our country ideal for micro hydro. We are introducing our SMH solutions to private corporations and government bodies which will help the government to achieve the 20 per cent renewable energy mix target by 2025”.
